The Republic of Uganda, proudly known as “The Pearl of Africa,” is set to make history by hosting the inaugural African Commonwealth Students’ Convention (ACSC) 2026, scheduled for 12th–16th April 2026. This gathering will bring together over 1,300 student leaders from universities and tertiary institutions across African Commonwealth nations, positioning Uganda as a hub for student-led dialogue on education reform, innovation ecosystems and youth participation in governance.

Organized under the Commonwealth Students’ Association (CSA), the Convention will convene under the theme:“Unleashing the African Dream: Education, Innovation, Science and Technology as Tools for Africa’s Redemption.” This theme reflects urgency and opportunity, recognizing that Africa’s future will be shaped by how effectively it invests in its young people today.Established in 2012, the Commonwealth Students’ Association unites student voices from across the 56 Commonwealth member states, with a track record in coordinating national student movements and engaging governments on education access, democratic participation and youth inclusion.

Hosting CSC 2026 in Uganda marks the Association’s first continental student convention in Africa, an important step in strengthening African student networks and aligning them with regional development priorities. Africa’s demographic advantage is undeniable. With over 400 million young people aged 15–35 and nearly 60% of the population under 25 (UNDP, 2023), students represent the continent’s greatest strategic asset. However, persistent challenges, limited access to quality education, underinvestment in research and innovation, unemployment, and weak youth participation in policymaking continue to constrain this potential.

The Convention is designed to directly confront these gaps by positioning students as co-creators of solutions, not mere beneficiaries.CSC 2026 will serve as a dialogue and action platform, exploring how we can promote sustainable development across African Commonwealth nations. It aligns with continental and global frameworks, including the African Union Agenda 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals and the broader Commonwealth development agenda.Participants will engage in a dynamic program featuring keynote addresses by Commonwealth leaders, African Heads of State, policymakers and renowned scholars. The Convention will also host panel discussions covering relevant and contextual matters as students showcase innovations and social enterprises.Beyond policy and innovation, CSC 2026 will celebrate Africa’s identity, highlighting the continent’s diversity through music, fashion, dance, art and cuisine, strengthening unity and people-to-people connections.

The Convention will conclude with the Commonwealth Students’ Declaration 2026, a youth-driven policy document outlining commitments and recommendations to be submitted to the Commonwealth Secretariat and the African Union Commission, to ensure that student voices translate into substantial policy influence.Hosting CSC 2026 in Uganda offers partners and stakeholders a great opportunity to invest in Africa’s next generation of leaders while gaining visibility across a continental and global audience. As Africa opens its doors to the world through Uganda, CSC 2026 stands as a movement, a statement of intent and a call to partnership. Together, Let’s unleash the African Dream and redefine the continent’s future.
