Parliament Clears 80 of 82 Ministerial Nominees as Vetting Process Concludes.

Uganda’s Parliament has successfully concluded the vetting of ministerial nominees appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, with 80 out of 82 nominees cleared to serve in Cabinet and various State Minister positions. The exercise, conducted by Parliament’s Committee on Appointments over two days, marked one of the first major constitutional responsibilities of the 12th Parliament. The committee was chaired by Jacob Marksons Oboth and deputized by Thomas Tayebwa.

According to Parliament, the vetting process involved scrutiny of nominees’ qualifications, integrity, competence, and readiness to execute their responsibilities in government. The ministerial appointments followed President Museveni’s Cabinet reshuffle announced on 26 May 2026. Parliament had earlier approved an expanded government structure consisting of 30 Cabinet Ministers and 51 State Ministers, bringing the total number of ministerial positions to 81, in addition to earlier approvals of the Vice President and Prime Minister. During the vetting sessions, several nominees outlined priorities ranging from fighting corruption and improving service delivery to strengthening public sector accountability, education, healthcare, and regional integration.

Among the key issues raised by the nominees were measures to curb corruption through technology, improve transparency in public service recruitment, strengthen local government revenue collection, and enhance Uganda’s international relations and regional cooperation. Several ministers-designate emphasized the need for efficiency, accountability, and citizen-centered service delivery as government embarks on implementing its agenda for the next five years.

With the vetting process now completed, Parliament is expected to formally communicate the committee’s decisions to the President in accordance with the Rules of Procedure. The approved ministers will subsequently assume office and begin executing their mandates as Uganda enters a new phase of governance under the 12th Parliament. The development signals the start of a fresh government term focused on socioeconomic transformation, service delivery, and national development priorities.
